Autodesk is offering some great prizes to the developers who create the best “cloud” apps for AutoCAD, Revit, and Inventor.
The theme of the event is “Connecting Autodesk to the Cloud” – and this is open to creative interpretation. Perhaps you can think of a way to wire our software into your favorite social media network or make use of infinite cloud computing to carry out CPU-intensive tasks. Or maybe you have a way to help users better visualize and share their ideas using a web browser.
Build a standalone app for an AutoCAD, Revit, Inventor or BIM 360 Glue product. Or build an app that takes advantage of the integration capabilities of BIM 360 Glue with either of the 3 other products families: AutoCAD, Revit and Inventor!
How would you like to see Revit connected to the cloud?
The deadline for me to submit a description of the app is October 11.
My company is any Autocad shop and I would love to have a way to reference a view from Revit into Autocad. For example I need to draw a detail of a staircase area from a plan view in revit because the technicians in my office have not yet started using Revit because we are not able to purchase licenses. The app proably have to run in Autocad and speak to 360Glue since I don’t have a spare Revit license but we can upload the Revit model to 360 Glue. I don’t know if the Glue API gives acess to views form uploaded Revit models. Assuming that is possible it would choose the available view from the list of views and convert only that view to a DWG which I could have the option to directly link to Autocad from Glue or download.
I’m not sure if it will be efficient / possible but I would love to workshare on dropbox. Revit needs file locking and dropbox doesn’t have one. People tried brilliant stuff on that. (http://www.revitforum.org/worksharing-revit-server/7583-dropbox-experiment-2-a.html)
If we can’t lock files, can we lock Revit? Let’s say we subscribe to every event that will end up requesting permission. Lock revit and send other participants a message to lock and as it gets confirmation continue doing it’s thing.
3 majors problems to overcome I guess are.
1) To be able to interfere with every permission asking event.
2) A fast communication between Revit addins
3) Someway to check Dropboxes of all participants if all are ready.
